CELEBRITY SUPPORT FOR NEWHAM LONDON RUN

Actors Steven Hartley and Ray MacAllan joined forces at the View Tube on The Greenway today for the launch the Newham London Run which will take place on Sunday 7 March 2010.
Starting and finishing beside Stratford Park, the 10km event will enter the Olympic Park. Competitors will pass in front of the Olympic Stadium where the opening and closing ceremony, as well as track and field events, will take place in 2012. The route also takes in West Ham Park, The Greenway and Stratford town centre.
Participants taking part will find themselves in good company as Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales and Chief Executive of Newham Council, Joe Duckworth will also be joining in the fun on the day with some familiar faces.
Sir Robin said: “I am thrilled Newham is holding its very own 10k run and giving people the opportunity to be a part of history by participating in the first race to enter the Olympic Park.
“This is a chance for people of all abilities to join some well-known faces.”
Newham Council has made 500 free places available for residents living in the borough, aged 15 and over, on a first-come-first served basis and organisers are expecting over 3,000 runners on the day.
Families wishing to get involved can take part in the Newham London Family Fun Run – a 2.5km event for ages 5 years and over.
There’s also the opportunity to join in with the Sunday Fun Day, a fantastic free day packed with entertainment, music and dance for the whole family in Stratford Park and town centre.
